We added 16 new blockchains, tons of new features, gained some amazing partners, and went head-to-head with the best startups in the world.
Hindsight is always 20/20, and looking back at 2021, it’s clear that it was Tatum’s most explosive and exciting year so far. It was as if someone flipped on the warp drive and just kept the pedal to the metal for the entire year, both for our teams and our users. Our selection of supported blockchains, tools, and resources skyrocketed, and with it, the capabilities of the apps built on Tatum. We hit some incredible milestones, doubled the size of our team, went head to head with some of the best startups in the world, and even officially became the best startup in Europe.
So let’s have a little walk down (very recent) memory lane and peruse some of the highlights of the year, shall we?
And the winner is….
TATUM! At the Startup World Cup European Finale, we duked it out with the best startups in Europe and won, taking home $500,000 and a ticket to Silicon Valley to compete in the Global Finale in 2022. It was a huge accomplishment and confirmation of all of our hard work, and we couldn’t be prouder to have come out on top against such amazing competitors.
We were also selected from thousands of applicants to participate in the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield, the most prestigious startup launch competition in the world. We were the FIRST ever blockchain company to be accepted and we finished in the top 5, presenting to some of the top execs and investors in Silicon Valley.
The sky is the limit!
Our user base is growing fast, and we’ve been scaling like madmen to keep ahead of it and keep offering the best developer experience in the blockchain world. At the beginning of 2021, we had around 4,000 developers. By the end, that number more than quadrupled to 18,000, a staggering explosion of growth that pushed our devops and platform developer teams to kick into overdrive to keep everything running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. And we have to say, they did an amazing job, delivering on time and beyond expectations, so hats off to all of our amazing developers for all your hard work!
Not to mention all the work involved in adding 16 new blockchains to the platform this year! Not only are they all integrated and ready-to-build-on for any developer anywhere, but they’re all available through our unified SDKs and API. This is a technological feat of epic proportions in the blockchain world and is light years ahead of any other platform in existence. The full list of supported blockchains in Tatum is here, and the blockchains we added in 2021 were:
- Celo
- Solana
- Algorand
- Polygon
- Binance Smart Chain
- Harmony
- Tron
- Flow
- Dogecoin
- XDC
- Elrond
- Quorum
- Scrypta
- Cardano
- Qtum
- KCC
It’s all about the features.
Adding blockchains and growing our developer community isn’t nearly enough to keep our place as the ultimate blockchain development platform. Our dev team is always cooking up new ideas and implementing new features that continue to set Tatum apart from the rest, and 2021 was a massive upgrade in terms of functionality. The features we added are completely unparalleled in other platforms, overcoming technical hurdles and once again introducing multiple game-changers in the blockchain world.
Here’s an overview of the main bar-setting features we added:
- Royalty NFTs that pay out creators a percentage of each sale forever.
- NFT marketplace and auction features — allow developers to instantly create listings and auctions to sell NFTs.
- Gas pump — a revolutionary feature that automatically pays for users’ blockchain transaction fees from a master account.
- NFT Maker — a WordPress plugin that allows anyone to sell NFTs from their WordPress e-shop.
- Transaction fee estimation on multiple blockchains.
- Native integration with the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) — the most popular storage service for NFT metadata (images, audio, video, etc.). Developers using Tatum can now store their NFT metadata on IPFS for free, forever.
- Futures trading features for crypto exchanges built on Tatum.
Extra, extra, read all about it!
In addition to developers, our social media presence took a giant leap in 2021, allowing us to get the word out there to everyone and their grandmothers and spread the blockchain gospel far and wide. Both our community and content output surged in 2021, with more than 14,000 subscribers to the newsletter and to a combined 15,000 followers across our social media channels. At the beginning of the year, we had no newsletter and fewer than 4,000 total followers across all social media channels.
Our website had 260k+ unique visitors, and our Marketing Team worked night and day to pump out 327 posts on our social media channels and 86 blog posts. We also created a ridiculous amount of video content, publishing over 50 videos and accumulating a whopping 1,185 subscribers!
Howdy, partner!
2021 was also marked by crucial partnerships we cultivated with amazing companies from a wide range of industries. Over the year, we partnered with:
- Chainalysis — the leading provider of comprehensive cryptocurrency investigation and transaction monitoring solutions.
- NFT.storage — a subsidiary of IPFS. The partnership allows developers to store their NFT metadata for free on IPFS forever.
- Gigster — an a16z-backed website that allows users to get projects built on demand.
- Maltego — a link analysis tool for conducting online investigations.
- MoroSystems — software development and consulting company.
We’re so thankful for our incredible partners and the hard work they do and are looking forward to continuing our collaboration in 2022 and beyond!
2022: LET’S GO!
